
Dan Walters
Dan Walters is a Colorado-based wildlife photographer specializing in bird photography with nearly 20 years of experience behind the lens. Based in Colorado, Dan is known for his dedication to capturing the vibrant color, diversity, & unique behaviors of the birds he photographs.
A frequent presence in the field, Dan spends countless hours observing and studying his subjects, continually challenging himself to create images that go beyond documentation to tell the story of each species. Living in Colorado provides access to an extraordinary range of ecosystems—from prairie grasslands to alpine tundra—offering endless opportunities to pursue his passion for avian photography.
Dan has previously led workshops at Florida’s Photo Fest and currently collaborates with renowned photographer Lisa Langell as a co-leader on her photography workshops, where he enjoys helping photographers strengthen both their technical skills and field awareness.
His work has been published in Colorado Outdoors, Colorado Life Magazine, Ranger Rick Jr. Magazine, Bugle Magazine, Impact Publishing, Blue Sky Publishing, Smith-Southwestern, and BrownTrout Publishing, among others.

Description: This hands-on morning field session is designed to help photographers truly see and understand light, from the quiet glow of pre-dawn blue hour through the intensity of full sun. Set in Florida’s ever-changing morning environment, this class explores how different qualities of light shape mood, depth, and storytelling in an image. Weather permitting, participants will learn to identify and creatively use ambient light, front light, side light, rim light, backlight, silhouettes, and even harsh sunlight to create compelling photographs. Whether you’re just beginning or refining your craft, this immersive experience will strengthen your ability to recognize light in real time and use it intentionally to create
beautiful, expressive images in any lighting condition.
Gear List: Smartphone, DSLR or Mirrorless cameras are welcomed. Lens length (for DSLR

Description: This classroom session focuses on practical, approachable post-processing
techniques to help elevate your nature photographs using Adobe Camera Raw and/or
Lightroom, and Photoshop. Designed for a wide range of experience levels, the class
emphasizes thoughtful, natural-looking edits that enhance light, color, detail, and mood
while preserving the authenticity of the scene. You’ll gain insight into not only how to edit
them, but even more importantly--why the edits should be done. We will demonstrate easy
adjustments that make the biggest impact while supporting your visual story. Whether
you’re new to post-processing or looking to refine your approach, this session will help you
build confidence in making intentional edits that bring your nature images to life.

Description: Whether you’re photographing with a smartphone or a digital camera, this hands-on botanical photography session will help you move beyond documentation and into creative expression. You’ll explore techniques that introduce movement, mood, and artistry into your images, including exposure choices, slow shutter speeds, color exploration, using
light modifiers like reflectors to control the light, and thoughtful composition. Designed to
encourage curiosity and play, this class will help you see familiar plants in new ways and
transform standard botanical photographs into images that feel intentional, expressive,
and uniquely yours.
