Beyond the Bloom: Creative Botanical Photography

THIS IS A 2-PART WORKSHOP - Attendees will start in the Classroom at Celebration Hall then drive to St John's Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve, 8310 County Road 13 South, Hastings.  Carpooling is encouraged.

Whether you’re photographing with a smartphone or a digital camera, this hands-on botanical photography session will help you move beyond documentation and into creative expression. You’ll explore techniques that introduce movement, mood, and artistry into your images, including exposure choices, slow shutter speeds, color exploration, using
light modifiers like reflectors to control the light, and thoughtful composition. Designed to
encourage curiosity and play, this class will help you see familiar plants in new ways and
transform standard botanical photographs into images that feel intentional, expressive,
and uniquely yours.
Gear List:  Smartphone, DSLR or Mirrorless camera. Lens length (for DSLR or Mirrorless
cameras): 70mm-200, or 100-400mm, or similar. Tripod optional.
